All Merville United players, girls and boys playing in age groups from under 11 up, must be registered with the Football Association of Ireland at the beginning of each season.
Confirming FAI Registration
For each player, the club will enter the player details including, name, gender, address [including Eircode], date of birth, parent/guardian email address [if player is under 16], nationality, photograph of player [passport style photo] and proof of identity. Proof of identity requires the submission of a photo of the picture page of the player's passport or a photo of the player's birth certificate.
Submitting Player Information
If a coach requests you to submit your player registration details or your child's player registration details, you can send them into the club email address mervilleunited@gmail.com.

- postal address including eircode
- photo of the picture page of passport or photo of birth certificate.
- for first registrations, a headshot photo of the player is required
Once the club submit the player details into the FAI database, the player or parent/guardian will receive an email from faiconnect@fai.ie with the subject: [FAI COMET] New registration entered - Merville United AFC. Attached to this email is the player's FAI registration form. The player, parent or guardian must complete this form.
Completing the FAI Registration Form
The form can be completed in one of two ways:
- The player or parent/guardian can print the registration form to sign and send back to the club. This can be via hard copy, a scanned copy, or a photo of the signed form to send to the club electronically - so long as the form is clear and legible.
- The player or parent/guardian can digitally sign the form on their smartphone or tablet and send it back to the club via email/WhatsApp etc. to upload onto FAI CONNECT.
Green Boxes
There are three green boxes on the Player Registration form. These must be filled in before the form is returned to Merville United. Also, for players under the age of 18 the second tick box must be ticked.
PLEASE NOTE: Once the player, parent or guardian [for players under 18] signs and dates the form, it must be submitted to mervilleunite@gmail.com and then received by the FAI within five working days of the date added to the form.
There is also a marketing section at the bottom of this page. The player or parent/guardian are automatically opted out to receive marketing information and therefore would only need to tick this box if they did want to receive any communication from the FAI. It is important to note that the only communications sent to individuals would be directly from the FAI as opposed to any third parties or FAI partners. The FAI will not pass any details on to third parties to contact individuals so there is no need to worry in relation to being bombarded with spam email.
